LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS

Le Mas de Font Joie is situated less than one kilometre from GRASSE.  It is within walking distance for those that like a good walk.  Otherwise, a few minutes by car and you are in the centre of the town where there is a choice of good multistory car parks.  Grasse is, of course, famous for its scent factories and there are three which all have guided tours and are open most days.  La Place aux Aires is a charming square in the centre which has a market every moring which is cleared in time for the restaurants around the square to place their tables and chairs out for lunch.  It is a fascinating old town which needs to be explored.

The house is located ideally for the golf player with a variety of really good courses.  Details to be found in the green folder in the house.

CANNES is about 20 minutes drive depending on the time of year and the traffic.  This should definately be visited for the window shopping alone on the Rue d'Antibes!  A promenade along the Croisette will take you past the Palais des Festivales, venue of the Cannes Film Festival, and lots more exciting shops together with an enormous choice of restaurants overlooking the beach.  For more information and for hiring of boats & etc. the Tourist Office (Bureau de Tourisme) telephone:

ANTIBES is just beyond Cannes towards Nice and also has a large covered market.  It also hosts Antiques Fairs at various times of the year.  Here also is the Picasso Museum, the Marineland and a wonderful harbour.

VALBONNE is a charming town close by which has a weekly market selling everything from provencal materials, tablecloths, clothes, jewellery, pottery and shoes to local vegetables, breads and cheeses.  It has a charming square where there are restaurants and bars and where something is always going on!  On one Sunday a month there is also a large antiques market.  Valbonne has lots of good shops and an excellent fish shop.

In the house we have a large green folder with a huge selections of cards from a wide range of restaurants covering the whole area and going back up to the mountains as well, where tthere are lovely walks to be taken.  Also in the file are details of the perfume factories, local tennis club, scooter hire are other trips.
